Friesland or Frisia in the Netherland, This is an original antique copper engraved map with hand coloring and published by Homann Heirs in Maior Atlas 1748. The map show detailed the plots of farmland and the old dikes. A inlay of the islands Ameland and Schiermonikoog complete the map. A mileage scale at lower corner.

Nuremberg Germany. From Maior Atlas scholasticus ex triginta sex generalibus et specialibus. Homann's Maior Atlas was first published in 1716 by Johann Homann, the founder of the famous Nuremberg map publishing house. It quickly became the standard gentleman's library atlas around Europe, particularly in German-speaking areas. After Johann's death in 1724 his son ran the business until his death in 1730 and then the firm became Homann Heirs, a combination of family and other geographers who pursued the commercial atlas market with considerable success.
