The map is copperplate engraved with hand-coloring engraved by Jacob van der Schley published in Histoire generale des voyages by Prevost.

It was from Tinian that the bombers from the 509th Composite Group carrying the atomic bombs Little Boy and Fat Man were launched against Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The bombs were delivered to the island by the USS Indianapolis on July 26, 1945.

Mapmaker Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772)
Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London.
Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.

Publisher: Antonine de Prevost d' Exile's Histoire generale des voyages.

Engraver: Jakob van der Schley aka Jakob van Schley (26 July 1715 Amsterdam - 12 February 1779 Amsterdam) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver.
He studied under Bernard Picart (1673-1733)
