Title: Vue du Fort Noortwyck – Gezicht van ‘ t Fort Noortwyck.
Description: In 1657 the VOC built the small fort Noordwijk, south of the city of Batavia, (jakarta) at the junction of the Ciliwong and the Nieuwe Vaart. The fort, which had four earth bastions and was armed with eight cannons, was probably designed by surveyor Johannes Listingh. In 1770, seven soldiers lived in the fort and operated the lock, the lock (Pintu Air) is still in use.
The map is copperplate engraved with hand-coloring .
Mapmaker Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772) Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.
