Saxe-Meiningen was a duchy in what is now Thuringia , the 1680 division of the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha, among the sons of Duke Ernest I "the Pious" of Saxe-Gotha was born (1601-1675). From 1871, Saxe-Meiningen was one of 26 states in the German Empire.
