The map is copperplate engraved with hand-coloring, engraved by Jacob van Schley published in Histoire generale des voyages by Prevost.
The island is know out the Archives of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) since 1610 Onrust island has been a naval base to repair and equip ships sailing to Asia.
Mapmaker Cartographer: Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772) Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.
