Fu Cheu Fu ou Hoksyeu View of Hoksyew China Bellin 1748

Title: Fu Cheu Fu ou Hoksyeu Capitale de Fo Kyen, tiree de Montanus.

Description: View of Hoksyew old engraved print of Foochow China with hand coloring.
The print is based on an earlier print of the Dutch expedition led by Balthasar Bort(h) to the coast of Fujian in Fuzhou (Foochow) China.
In 1662 Bord stood at the head of a "mission" to China and was appointed commander of twelve ships called Noort fleet.

Cartographer:
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772)
Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.

Most of the plates in the Dutch edition of Prévost's "Histoire générale des voyages" are signed by the engraver van der Schley.
