Description: Sao Vicente Cape Verde old antique print of the port St Vincent by the mapamaker Nicolas Bellin.


History: The first discoveries were made by Genoa-born António de Noli, who was afterwards appointed governor of Cape Verde by Portuguese King Afonso V. Other navigators mentioned as contributing with discoveries in the Cape Verde archipelago are Diogo Gomes, who was with António de Noli and claims to have been the first to land on and name Santiago island, Diogo Dias, Diogo Afonso and the Italian Alvise Cadamosto.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772)
Bellin was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France's hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. 

Engraved by Jakob van der Schley aka Jakob van Schley a Dutch engraver. He studied under Bernard Picart.
Most of the plates in the Dutch edition of Prévost's "Histoire générale des voyages" are signed by van der Schley.
